FILM POSTER:

Production Documentation:

The main save I used for my FMP on my external hard drive. Before this, I got through all my shots and choose several of the best types of each shots and then put them into one folder, that way I don't need to spend time naming them as its all there. I also have back ups on One Drive and Google Drive, just in case anything corrupts.

The main sequence. What I did is put each scene into its own sequence, and then put all the sequences into a large sequence. This way, I can manage smaller timelines without having to render my footage thus causing more compression on already low bit-rate footage.

Heres the other timelines:

Colour correction:

These are screen shots of the colour work I have been doing - more specifically, just colour correction. Though, I have toyed around with Speed Grade, and got some really nice grades, I just never saved the project as it was a test.

Pre-production:

So even though there isn't much preproduction, there wasn't much to plan. The shoot was a simple one, it was get the people there and shoot what the schedule and shot list said. I had all the documentation available to me, including script, shot list and a schedule. Even though I pretty much knew what I needed from the shot list anyway, I still referred to it every now and then as a check list to make sure I got everything.

YOUTUBE –
Compatible formats: .MOV, .MPEG4, .AVI, .WMV, .MPEGPS, .FLV, .3GPP. WebM

Audience: YouTube is the biggest video sharing platform on the internet. Globally, YouTube is ranked the 2nd most popular website. This means that as a potential audience, the limitations are almost endless. Whilst this sounds great that the potential of views are within the millions (some videos even hit billions), this means that you are reaching a very wide audience meaning that it can be very unprofessional and sometimes crude and profound.

Pros & Cons:
Pros – Massive potential exposure & audience, completely free (no restrictions), a chance to make money through ad revenue, wide audience
Cons – Low bit rate (lots of compression), saturated market, wide audience

VIMEO –
Compatible formats: .3GPP, .AVI, .FLV, .MPEG4, .MOV, .WebM, .WMV

Audience: The potential audience on Vimeo is vastly different to that of YouTube. In short, Vimeo is seen as a platform for professionals and even though this sounds great (and it is), the potential exposure compared to that of YouTube is tiny. This makes Vimeo a great place to display work for when you need to show people in an interview or for university. Vimeo has higher standards of quality as well (probably to cater to their audience of professionals) as they brag about their bit rate on different resolutions.

Pros & Cons:
Pros – Higher bit rate (less compression), more professional environment, great for portfolios
Cons – Upload cap for weekly uploads on Free account (500mb), no 1080p on Free account, Subscriptions are needed for less restrictions

Evaluation

So I completed this showreel a while back, which is great because I am now able to return and give myself an honest opinion on it without being bias.

Starting with the pros, the showreel is short and snappy. It shows a large variety of different angles, different types of shots from different projects I've completed. Making it around the 30 second mark was a challenge to be able to fit the amount I wanted, as the intention of this Showreel was to show variety and quantity as this allows me to show a consistency in quality. I felt like I have chosen good shots, and made the Showreel gripping enough to watch until the end.

For the cons, I felt the song was a bad choice. Its too upbeat and fast, which means I was tempted to synchronize the shots to the beat at times - which was just too fast and was a bad editing decision. Though it makes it different using a much faster type of editing, it contradicts the concept of a showreel - to showcase your work, so people need to be able to see it. In other words, it was too snappy. Another thing is that I made cuts too predictable, as they are mainly with the beat. Though sometimes this isn't always true as I did keep it in mind whilst editing, I now look back on it and still feel like I could of mixed it up a bit more, using transitions or other interesting visual techniques (such as showing to shots side by side)

Overall, I feel the showreel does its job - its shows my work. Theres stuff to be improved on, but thats a good thing to remember for the next one. It was fast paced and energetic, sometimes too energetic, but even with the fast cuts you can still see the shots and after 2 or 3 watches you are able to see most of them. That may sound bad, but it allows me to compress more footage in a smaller number, so 2 or 3 watches will feel shorter then one 1:30 minute video.
